FFXI On Vista

Posted on 2006-08-30 By Jon No Comments on FFXI On Vista

Recently I’ve been getting back into Final Fantasy XI. While I was never a big fan of the Final Fantasy series, FFXI is a little different from the rest, and is by far my favorite MMORPG of all time.

Of course the issue is that I’m running Vista on my laptop. Generally Vista and everything else don’t get along, this holds true for FFXI. But… With a simple trick it does work. Here’s the deal, when ever you need to patch, you MUST run PlayOnline/FFXI as administrator (aka: right click on the short cut and click “Run As Administrator”). That way you’ll have permission to write the patch files to the harddrive. I don’t know about non-patch runs, but I found it was easier to simply always run it as an administrator.
