Last Friday I saw a good deal on newegg for Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive. I just couldn’t help myself, so I got two. Remember that Seagate’s 7200.10 spec means that these are the some of the new Perpendicular drives. Ohhhhhh god its good. Anyways, I upgrade my home Linux server from 2x80GB drives to 2x320GB. Granted I only got about 600GB useable space, but man I’m thrilled. I download alot of anime (gasp, yes, anime. I’m a nerd, sue me). Videos are big, and take up alot of space. Now I’m using less than 50% of one drive (the other is still empty).
Sadly I don’t have any benchmarks, because first I don’t care, and second because I’m only running them at 1.5Gb/s since my mobo SATA controller doesn’t support the 3Gb/s. I guess I’ll be retiring the two Hitatchi Deskstar 80GB drives I was using, they served me very well. Better than I expected, compared they’ve been running almost 24×7 for 2 years.
