Averatec 6100 Adapter Problems

I read my webalizer logs for all the domains under my controll (on my server) on a relativly regular basis. I find the most intresting parts of the logs is what search terms are bringing users to my site – especially for Snowulf here. The most popular searches that bring people here are gun related. This is extremely intresting to me, because I don’t talk about guns all that much...

WIM – Wardriving Improved!

Yesterday I was wardriving on my Averatec laptop – which I really shouldn’t have. I say that because I have a 140W car DC->AC adapter – which is ok for most laptops, but not the Averatec. The Av draws 120v @ 2Amps which equals about 240Watts – a bit over. Opps. AP’s Galore So today I switched over to my work laptop which draws a good bit less power (just...

Averatec + Linux + Kernel 2.6.14.3

So I’ve continued my work on my laptop this last week. Fiddling around a bit and I found a few bits. First off that no matter what I do, I cant possibly get a USB drive working because the udev package for debian requires me running 2.6.12 or better (And I’m at 2.6.8 ). Of course if I upgrade, I loose my precompiled ndiswrapper drivers. Regardless of that, I decided...

Linux on Averatec 6100

Well a co-worker of mine convinced me to install Linux (More specifically I installed debian – of course) on my laptop (Averatec 6100), so I did. Its been relativly painless, with a few minor problems. On first boot Xorg came up just perfectly and worked, but on the following reboot I had issues. First that it set the mouse to /dev/input/mouse0. Second, I found that synaptic (touchpad drivers) required that...

Re-installs are fun

So my Averatec (Which I hate so much because they refurse to support it) had a 60GB 4200RPM harddrive. I recently ordered and installed a 100GB 5400RPM harddrive w/ an 8MB cache. This made a HUGE jump in performance for my machine (also added some ram which helps). HDTach reported something akin to a 4x jump in burst speed (from 25mbs to 93mbs). I also ripped 30 minutes of DVD...
