Symantec AntiVirus Uninstall Password

Posted on 2007-08-20 By Jon No Comments on Symantec AntiVirus Uninstall Password

Once again I run into a machine with a damned password for Uninstall. I realized why companies do this, but it is extremely irritating. Inevitably, the answer is a google away. Just to make it easier for everyone else, here’s what I did…

Symantec (Norton) AntiVirus Corporate Uninstall Password Removal:
-Run regedit
-Find the following folder: HKLM\SOFTWARE\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\
AdministratorOnly\Security
-Find the key named “UseVPUninstallPassword”
-Modify Value to “0”
-Run uninstall again

Damn that was easy.

Also, I found an alternate set of directions, but they didn’t work for me.
