Today In: Wild ass sensationalist headlines

I was cruising the ‘net and found a story which I simply could not let pass without making a comment about. wrote an article titled “Women should be hit for wearing sexy clothing in public, one in seven believe". Interesting, certainly caught my attention, let’s read on and see what they have to say. Turns out only the first paragraph had ANYTHING to do with the headline. I’ll quote it here to save you the click:

One in seven people believe it is acceptable in some circumstances for a man to hit his wife or girlfriend if she is dressed in “sexy or revealing clothes in public”, according to the findings of a survey released today.

Yup. That’s it. According to “a survey”. Nothing on who authored the survey, who was asked, or any of the demographics. So obviously the Times Online is full of utter crap. I might not be a professional journalist, but at least with my work at Wikinews, we have to backup the words that we write. Everything needs to have sources so you can click through and read yourself (except when it is original reporting, which obviously a survey would not be).

Let’s move on to the more pertinent question. Who in their right minds would believe that women should be physically abused for wearing “sexy” clothing in public. Me? I’m a violent person. I like guns, playing with knives, destroying things, and generally carrying about in a manner which tends to scare most people. That being said, I don’t approve of hitting people for stupid shit reasons like “sexy clothing” (stupidity on the other hand…). I make it a point to not hit women (barring some exceptions like a lady friends of mine whom I happen to spar/wrestle with; I hit her, she hits me back just as hard… and it’s all in good fun). From a totally unscientific survey (IE my recollection), I can’t think of anyone who actually believes that hitting women is a good idea. So who the hell are these stupid shits, and would they please form an orderly line out back behind the shed?

Now let’s move on to the part of the topic I like, sexy clothing. I don’t think there are many guys that would complain about their girlfriends/wives/significant others dressing up nicer. In fact, I’ll go so far as saying that most guys WANT that. Some would probably be willing to give an arm or a leg for that. I know I certainly don’t mind when the ladies are dressed up. No, I don’t treat them like objects, but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate what I see. So… uh… why would any guy want to hit a woman for being dressed in a sexy outfit, unless of course you mean “hit” as in “I’d hit it” as in “Yes, I want to have sex with that very attractive woman wearing that very sexy outfit”.

Stupid Times Online, should take their writer out back behind the shed too.

PS. Obviously I’m referring to heterosexual men. But the same is true for homosexual men wanting their partners dressed nicely — probably more so since they generally understand what the hell “fashion” is.
