Today marks the release of PlanetSide 2. But before you start installing (the free 2 play) PlanetSide 2, you (apparently) need to uninstall the beta. Jon and I were both surprised by this, but according to @planetside2, it is necessary.
It is more than just double-clicking the uninstall in Control Panel (which didn’t really seem to do much on my machine). It seems you need to manually delete the bulk of the data from
C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games — my install had about 9.5 GB there. There’s more to it than that, so go check out the instructions.
After you do that (or if that part is unnecessary), head over to Planetside2.com and download the client (< 10 MB) which will have you download the game (< 7 GB). For most people, this will take a couple hours. While you are waiting you could head over to the wikia or check out the basic training videos (once they get their servers a bit more stable). If you happen to see a GameStop on your way home, you might want to stop in and pick up a PlanetSide 2 game card to get the NS11 rifle unlocked for free; unfortunately there is not much information on the rifle at time of writing.
